Mission Statement
To coordinate assistance, resource management and emergency support and recovery efforts, to include the maintenance of the Territorial Emergency Operations Plan.
The American Samoa Territorial Emergency Management Coordinating Office (TEMCO) is responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts throughout the territory of American Samoa. The office is tasked with providing leadership, guidance, and support to all entities involved in emergency management, including federal, territorial, and local government agencies, as well as private sector organizations and the general public. The duties of the American Samoa TEMCO include developing and maintaining emergency plans and procedures, conducting regular training and exercises for emergency responders, and coordinating the deployment of resources during emergencies. The EMPG grant is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support emergency management activities at the state and territorial level. TEMCO receives funding through this grant to support its day-to-day operations, including planning, training, and exercises, as well as to enhance its ability to respond to emergencies.
National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program
The NTHMP grant is provided by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) specifically under the Weather Service Office (WSO) and supports the development and implementation of tsunami preparedness and hazard mitigation efforts. TEMCO receives funding through this grant to support its work on tsunami preparedness, including developing and implementing early warning systems, conducting evacuation drills, and educating the public about tsunami safety.
Hazard Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant
The HMEP grant is provided by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and supports emergency preparedness and response efforts related to hazardous materials incidents. TEMCO receives funding through this grant to support its work on hazardous materials preparedness, including training for emergency responders, developing response plans, and ensuring that appropriate resources and equipment are available to respond to hazardous materials incidents.
